The Garden State Municipal Joint Insurance Fund Adds Four Members in 2010

January 20, 2010 – The Garden State Municipal Joint Insurance Fund (GSMJIF) is pleased to announce the addition of four new member municipalities in 2010. The GSMJIF has grown from 22 member municipalities in 2009 to 26 this year with the addition of the Township of Freehold, the Borough of Middlesex, the Township of Morris and the Borough of New Providence. The GSMJIF is one of the largest joint insurance funds in New Jersey, with member towns that comprise over 750,000 residents.

“We’re very pleased to have added such strong and committed municipalities to the Fund,” said Earl Miller, Executive Director for the GSMJIF. “The GSMJIF was created to give New Jersey municipalities control over their insurance costs by offering the best property and casualty insurance coverage, as well as risk management and claims control services, all at reasonable prices. We are able to provide our members savings due to our purchasing leverage. That leverage is only possible with municipalities who are committed to sound government and risk management strategies.”

The GSMJIF was formed in 2002 in response to the lack of affordable commercial insurance for larger municipalities. The primary objective of the GSMJIF is to provide its members with a stable, long-term and cost effective insurance and risk control program. The GSMJIF achieves this objective by implementing the best risk and claims management practices, which improve public and employee safety and lower the ultimate cost of risk.
